Living in Scotch Plains, NJ

Scotch Plains occupies a sprawling nine square miles, which means many homeowners enjoy larger property sizes than surrounding suburbs. Many of the homes sit on expansive lots with wildlife and greenery to enjoy. As a matter of fact, one of my recent Scotch Plains homeowners is visited by a herd of deer daily. But the township is also fortunate to have a lovely downtown district boasting restaurants and shops. The town’s center is a park that hosts town-wide events and a seasonal farmers’ market. The proximity to transit and major highways makes living in Scotch Plains, NJ very attractive to commuters, as well.

You won’t have trouble finding public green spaces for recreation in Scotch Plains, where eleven parks and several ball fields welcome kids and adults to partake in outdoor fun and sports. Additionally, Scotch Plains is home to the renowned Shackamaxon Country Club, the Scotch Hills Golf Course, and the Highland Swim Club. The JCC of Union County is located in Scotch Plains and offers a wide array of recreation, school, and summer camp opportunities.

Despite its large size, those who live in Scotch Plains, New Jersey, find that the town has a strong sense of community among its 23,000 residents. This is bolstered by the many events that bring residents together, such as the annual Harvest Homecoming, Scotch Plains Day, and the annual Easter Egg Hunt.

Education is one of the pillars of Scotch Plains, with six of its public and private high schools named among America’s Top High Schools by Newsweek in 2015.
