Joanie’s Café
You may have seen large cameras and lights recently, around 29 N Union Avenue in downtown Cranford. That’s because Joanie’s Café was used as a backdrop in a recent TV commercial for AARP/New York Life Insuracnce. It was chosen as the perfect spot because of it’s cozy small diner look and feel.
It is exactly that look and feel, coupled with great home-made food and super-friendly staff, that make Joanie’s such a great place. It’s a little piece of Americana right in the heart of town, evidenced by the all-American décor, complete with 9-11 photographs along the wall. It is also very kid-friendly, and is packed on those single-session school days when the after school lunch crowd rolls in. (Xanax) It’s got the typical long counter seating, as well as tables for groups and families. It boasts a ton of “regulars,” and when you eat there, you almost feel more like you are at a family gathering than at a diner. They have “cartoon nights,” and even Bingo at times. And a menu so extensive it’s daunting. Good, home made food, friendly, happy staff, right in the heart of town . . . it’s just a happy, homey place to be!. Grab the family, head over, and check it out! (Maybe you’ll find yourself in a commercial!)
