Do you have a serious sweet tooth? (If you don’t, I’m not sure we can be friends anymore.) Then you simply must check out Westfield’s newest bakery, Brownie Points. They had me at the cute name alone!
Located on South Ave. directly across from the train station, this is the second Brownie Points outpost–the first bakery by the same name is located in Summit, where it’s enjoyed a flourishing business for more than seven years. Westfield’s Brownie Points already has my vote for the FREE PARKING in the rear of the building. I sure love not having to deal with meters, let alone saving a buck.
The cheerful decor of pastels and eclectic furniture beckons you right in, and the smell of freshly baked goods will tempt you immediately. I went in for coffee (they have cappuccino, lattes, hot chocolate, and regular joe) . . . I left with two bags of cookies, two cupcakes, and their signature “duffin.” Oops!
What is a duffin, you ask? It’s a cross between a donut and a muffin (take that, “Cronut”!), and mine was of the crumb cake variety, piled high with sugary crumbs and drizzled with sugar. Yum! Brownie Points is also known for their croissants–chocolate and plain–which are hand-rolled in the shop every day. And of course you’ll find a wide variety of cupcakes, brownies, and cookies available. Next time I plan to try the Italian knots, nicely priced at only $5 a bag.
Owner Bob Conway says to look out for an upcoming Tasting Menu slated for Valentine’s Day, where you’ll get to sample a prix fixe of several courses of gourmet desserts with your sweetie.
Brownie Points is open Monday through Saturday 8:30 am to 5 pm, Sunday 10 am to 4 pm.
