Fanwood

Fanwood

December 7, 2010 by Sharon Steele

What’s it like to live in Fanwood, New Jersey?

Nestled next to Scotch Plains is the quaint town of Fanwood. With a population of around 7,000 occupying just more than one square mile, Fanwood could be called a small town. But the truth is, it has so much to offer residents and visitors alike. When you live in Fanwood, New Jersey, you’ll find that it’s small but mighty… and it’s growing in all the right places!

In 2014, The New York Times featured Fanwood as “A Future Coupled With Transit”, and we could not agree more!  Over the years, the business districts of Fanwood have greatly expanded, with many terrific restaurants and boutiques opening, luxury apartment complexes developed. Plus, there’s even more growth planned! Train service to Manhattan is available at the Fanwood Station, one of the prettiest historic stations in all of NJ. Did you know that the train station was instrumental in the naming of Fanwood? Fanwood is part of the highly regarded Scotch-Plains Fanwood School District, whose high school is continually ranked among the best in the state.

An affordable, charming community

Small-town charm abounds in Fanwood, from the seventy-five-year-old butcher shop where they know customers by name, to the parks where toys are purposely left in the sandboxes for children to enjoy, to the petite town library whose slogan is, “We may be small but we’re mighty,” to the annual “Fanny Wood Day” festival — replete with pie-eating contests and bubble-blowing competitions. It’s a great place to call home, for the day or forever.
