The Westfield School of Dance Presents The Steadfast Tin Soldier
Dancing For A Good Cause
Call it “Kicks For Kids,” or “Pirhouettes For People,” or “Tutus For Tots.” Whatever you want to call it, it’s a beautiful gift.
On Sunday, December 9th 2012, The Westfield School of Dance presents its holiday Performance, The Steadfast Tin Soldier, A Story Ballet adapted from the Hans Christian Anderson fairy tale. This performance is absolutely free to anyone who wishes to enjoy it. All they ask is that each person bring an item to help fulfill the “Wish List” of The Ronald McDonald House of New Brunswick, NJ. A representative From RMH will be present at this year’s performance. Ronald McDonald House primarily offers a temporary home to families from all over the world, who have traveled to a city primarily for pediatric cancer treatment available at city hospitals. (Diazepam)
For the past several years, The Westfield School of Dance has hosted a benefit performance for Ronald McDonald House and Children’sSpecializedHospital, but usually AFTER the holidays. Last year, the school, under the artistic direction of Joanne Carey, decided to try a holiday show, and the concept was very well received.
This year’s ballet, sort of a children’s version of “The Nutcracker,” takes place on Christmas Eve when everyone has gone to bed and all the toys come to life. Every role is danced by children of the dance studio, and there is an accompanying narration. It’s a wonderful opportunity for families to enjoy a holiday ballet . . . . and a little “lighter” version for those with young children. At the same time, it’s a great way for the dance school students to show off their skills, while gaining a priceless life lesson on helping out others.
The performance is at 2:30 PM.WestminsterHall, at The Presbyterian Nursery School onMountain AvenueinWestfield. You can make a reservation by calling The Westfield School of Dance at 908-789-3011. We can all use a little holiday sweetness and beauty. And this is a way to enjoy yourself while helping out those who need some of that sweetness and beauty even more than you do.
