This is Lindsey’s own Sold by Sharon Story – the tale of a spirited girl hailing from Freehold, NJ, whose love for the outdoors and penchant for exploration led her to embark on a new chapter in Cranford, NJ. This is also a personal one for me, as I have known Linsdey’s parents since I was in 9th grade!! (Yep, I am old!) It has been a gift to guide Lindsey on her path to homeownership.
As a seasoned travel nurse with a wanderlust spirit, Lindsey found herself at a crossroads when her sister’s impending motherhood beckoned her back to the East Coast. She is now the proud owner of an adorable two-bedroom, one-bath end-unit townhouse nestled in the highly sought-after town of Cranford. Lindsey fell in love with the proximity to town and having her own private backyard and patio.
Let’s see what Lindsey has been up to since she moved into her first home! Enjoy the latest Sold by Sharon Story: Lindsey!
Tell us a little bit about yourself…where you were originally from, what you like to do in your free time…
I’m Lindsey, I’m from Freehold NJ. I love to be outside anyway I can! I spend most of my free time hiking, going to new coffee shops, antique shops and now watching YouTube videos on how to fix things in my new home.
What were you doing before you decided to move and what prompted the move?
I have been a travel nurse for the last six years and my last assignment was in California. My sister had just announced she was pregnant with my first nephew. Considering I could not drive any further west, I thought it might be a good idea to have my own home base. I really needed a spot for all the future playdates I plan to have!
How was the current home-buying process for you?
It was overwhelming at times. The process was a lot to learn and then the pressure to act fast for decisions can be a lot!
What aspects of house hunting were you not expecting?
The volume of buyers at some of the open houses and then the bidding wars. It reminded me of Black Friday back when I was a kid – people lined up around the block and everyone trying to get in!
How did you find Sharon Steele to work with as an agent?
Sharon was a blessing! I had a million questions, needed things to be explained multiple times, and was often hesitant. However, she always made me feel supported and heard.
What made you choose Cranford, NJ initially?
I had no idea where I wanted to live in New Jersey. I decided to just drive around some towns along the NJ transit lines which led me right through Cranford. I wrote it down as a town with potential. Every time I came back, I found other things about Living in Cranford that I loved.
What did you HAVE to find in your search for a new home?
Walkability- especially to a coffee shop.
What was going through your head as you closed on your new home? What was your first impression as you entered your new home as the new owner?
Fear and excitement. I was afraid of the new responsibility in my life, but excited to put my personality into it.
Any advice for first-time homebuyers like you?
Location is always important. You can change the inside but it’s way harder to pick it up and put it in a great town.
What drew you to your new home?
I loved that I could walk into town but when I’m inside the home- it’s so quiet. I also adore my backyard and being able to sit and look at the trees while I read a book or work on a project.
What has been the biggest change in the home since move-in-day?
That I think I could become a DIY furniture restoration handywoman. I am attempting to use refinished furniture to update areas of the house. I’m doing these projects all by myself! It is a lot of work and a lot messier than I was expecting.
How would you describe your design style?
I think I would describe it as some sort of modern, vintage vibe with colors leaning on the darker side.
If you have painted, what is your favorite new paint color?
The BEST room of the house and why…
The den. It faces my backyard, so I get to sip my coffee while looking out the window. I plan to eventually have a collection of travel pictures displayed in this room.
What’s one more thing your house needs?
A firepit
What’s a new memory that you cherish in your new home?
Friends coming to visit
How would you describe your new neighborhood?
Cozy
What was your first major splurge?
My couch for my den!
What is your favorite Cranford spot for a bite to eat?
Lately it has been Thai Mama (I am going to have to meet Lindsey for a bite!)
