Tying your shoes seems like such a basic skill — but for children who’ve never done it before, it can be really daunting! That’s why Castle Bootery of Westfield offers shoe-tying classes every week, to help kids learn to make those infamous shoelace bunny ears in a non-threatening atmospherec.
The classes are geared toward children ages 4 1/2 and up, and the cost is $5 per child. Classes are held every weekday at 4 pm, and at 10 am and 2 pm on Saturdays. You must call ahead to reserve a spot: 908-233-7172. Each class lasts approximately 40 minutes (parents must stay in the store), and coupons are given to all participants at the end of class, so you can save on your next shoe purchase. And let’s face it, kids’ feet seem to grow by the second, so you might as well browse the great shoe selection while you’re there!
Castle Bootery is an institution in Westfield, having been in business downtown for 65 years. They specialize in expertly fitting infants, children, and young adults for footwear, and they carry only reputable brands of shoes and dancewear, such as Stride Rite, Puma, UGGs, and Capezio. You’ll also find a wide selection of rain boots, umbrellas, socks, and adorable hair accessories in the shop.
Afraid your little ones will complain if you drag them to a shoe store? Castle Bootery has a great bribe–a free helium balloon for every child. Never gets old, I tell you.
You can find Castle Bootery at 52 Elm Street. Conveniently, there is an entrance on Elm Street as well as on Quimby Street.
