Introducing Stephanie Savino:
Hi Stephanie! Could you start by telling us a little about yourself and your new venture, Savino Vita?
Hi! I’m Stephanie Savino. I launched my olive oil brand, Savino Vita, this past July. I graduated from Cranford High School in 2017. Later, I earned a degree in Business at the University of San Diego. Living in Cranford NJ has always been special to me. The community’s support when I launched Savino Vita was overwhelming. Neighbors, parents of former classmates, and even my teachers showed incredible encouragement. It was heartwarming to see everyone rally around my business. Their support is a true reflection of Cranford’s close-knit spirit.
The Inspiration Behind Savino Vita Olive Oil
What inspired you to start Savino Vita, and how did your time in Flumeri, Italy, influence your decision?
I’ve always been drawn to entrepreneurship, especially brand-building. Studying abroad in Italy gave me new inspiration. During a visit to my family’s village in Flumeri, I joined in the olive harvest. The experience was eye-opening. Olive oil has deep cultural significance in my family. It motivated me to create a brand that celebrates this tradition and shares it with others. I wanted to bring high-quality olive oil to a wider audience.
Family Traditions in Olive Oil Making
Can you share more about your family’s olive oil-making tradition?
My family comes from Flumeri, a village in Italy’s Campania region. Olive oil production goes back generations there. Traditionally, the process was manual and time-consuming. Olives were handpicked, crushed by a heavy stone wheel, and pressed to extract the oil. While modern methods are used now, the community still values high-quality, seasonal food. Many olive oils on the market today are blended or rancid. I want to ensure Savino Vita remains pure and true to the heritage my family upheld.
The Search for the Perfect Olive Farm for Savino Vita Olive Oil
Tell us about your partnership with the family-owned farm in Tuscany. How did you find them?
Initially, I wanted to source directly from my family’s farm, but shipping costs were too high. So, I researched alternatives. Eventually, I found a small family farm in Tuscany. They produce high-quality olive oil and have experience shipping to the U.S. The farm met all my criteria: exceptional quality and reasonable shipping logistics. Additionally, they have a facility near me in New Jersey, which was ideal. Because of this partnership, I am able to focus on marketing, which I love.
What Makes Savino Vita Olive Oil Unique
What sets Savino Vita’s olive oil apart from mass-produced varieties?
Savino Vita is unique for several reasons. Firstly, our olives are handpicked to prevent bruising and oxidation. This maintains a low acidity level. Secondly, they are grown in volcanic soil without pesticides. Due to this process, both the flavor and nutrient profile are enhanced. Thirdly, we process the olives within four hours of harvesting. Finally, the oil is stored in oxygen-free, temperature-controlled tanks to preserve freshness. Above all, quality is the goal for every bottle.
Achieving Superior Regional Taste
How do you ensure that your olive oil maintains its unique regional tasting notes and superior quality?
Savino Vita olive oil is single-sourced from one region in Italy, unlike mass-produced brands that blend olives from various countries. By focusing on a single origin, we preserve the distinct taste from Tuscany’s volcanic soil and ideal climate. Our blend includes Leccino, Moraiolo, Frantoio, and Olivastra Seggianese olives, which give it a unique flavor.
Stephanie’s Favorite Ways to Use Olive Oil
What’s your favorite way to use Savino Vita olive oil in cooking?
Olive oil is the ideal enhancement to elevate simple dishes. Right now, I’m enjoying bruschetta with ripe tomatoes, fresh basil, and garlic. Drizzle Savino Vita olive oil on top, and it really makes the flavors pop!
