Watching the news these days is incredibly depressing. It seems as though the whole world is at war with each other. We could all use a little uplifting reminder to “give peace a chance.”
Sunday, August 3rd, (rain date is August 10th), is the 12th annual “Peace Arts Fair” at Eastman Plaza in Cranford, near the town clock, located at 2 Eastman St. at North Avenue. It will run from 1:00 to 7:00 PM, is absolutely free to the general public, and is an extremely family-friendly event. August is the annual choice for this particular event since it marks the marks the anniversary of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in Japan.
This year, Union County Peace Council’s annual arts and music fair will gratefully accept and collect bagged garden soil and funds to build raised garden beds for an urban Newark farm. And . . . get this . . . the public address system at the event is solar and bicycle powered. How’s that for dedication to a cause?!
Some of the entertainment at this year’s event will be the music of Barry Blues, The Tee Wee, Hazy Jane, Spook Handy, Singalong Satirist Dave Lippman, The Solidarity Singers, the Sharon Fit Belly Dance Studio Endless Circle Dancers , and the Earthmovers Drum Collective.
This is a whole lot of fun very close to home, and a perfect venue for the entire family. Turn off the news, and hed into the center of town to promote a little peace and love!
