Margaret Sacco of Westfield bought Milk Money in Cranford 2 years ago because, as a mom of two (Hank age 12 and Grace age 9), she was acutely aware of how quickly children outgrew their toys and clothes, and how wasteful it is when we simply dispose of these items. She wanted to find a way to help people resell their gently used items to others, providing both income for herself and the consignor, as well as affordable items for the consumer. Milk Money is a franchise – 6 stores in all – the first one opened in Maplewood. All of the stores are owned by moms who want to strike a balance between working and spending time with the kids.
Margaret absolutely loves her job! Before opening her own business, she worked in retail management and was an Interior Designer. Milk Money offers her the best of retail (interaction with people, fun thing like merchandising, independence) without the negatives (corporate pressure, & working nights & holidays). Everyone here is happy – either they are getting fantastic bargains or they are making some money. Margaret feels she automatically has something in common with every customer , kids, so her business seems very friendly. It almost feels like you are doing business with a family member!
Milkmoney has been very successful using Facebook (MilkMoney Cranford) – to both market items in stock, and to reach out and find new items. She often posts an item and gets an instantaneous response. It also helps her find items that customers are looking for.
Margaret think children & consignment are a perfect fit. Children outgrow their clothes, toys and equipment very quickly. Therefore, the items are often in great condition. Most of her clients are moms, as well as many grandparents looking to provide the eseentials for when the grandkids visit!
Milk Money sells kids clothing (up to size 12ish), toys, accessories, & they just started selling maternity clothes. The consigment system works on a a 50/50 split – whenever an item sells, half goes to the store, and half to the consignor. That’s a win-win for all!
Margaret moved her store to Cranford Crossing in Octiber of 2011 in order to gain more space and easier parking for her clients. Located at 2 South Union Ave, the hours of operation are Mon, Wed, Fri from 9am -5pm and Sat 10 am -2pm. (Phentermine) Call 908-272-5437 for more information or stop in to see what’s in stock!
