Tired of the same-old, same-old this summer? Here’s a great idea for something the whole family can do together, even if you’ve never done it before and think you wouldn’t know how to begin. Horseback riding! And it’s so near to home for Union County residents!
The Union County’s Watchung Stable is offering guided trail rides at the Watchung Reservation for riding enthusiasts and riding wannabes nine years of age and older. The rides, available on a first-come, first-served basis, require no previous experience, and are held on Sundays during the summer at 1 p.m. and 2 p.m., weather permitting. Groups of 15 or more people are guided along the picturesque bridle trails in part of the 2,065-acre Reservation in Mountainside. There are also special private group rides for individuals and groups up to 15 people, which can be set up in advance at a mutually convenient time. The cost for rides is$28 for in-county riders, $39 for out-of-county riders and an additional $30 for the instructor for private groups. For those younger riders under nine, Watchung Stable offers 30 minute long leadline rides ($15 for Union County residents, $23 for non-residents) on Saturdays and Sundays between 9 a.m. and 10:45 a.m.
What a wonderful, worry-free, reasonably priced way to try something new and make fun family memories this summer! The trail rides and leadlines are held at Watchung Stable, which is located at 1160 Summit Lane in Mountainside. Office hours are from 9:00 AM – noon, and from 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM daily. For further information, call (908) 789-3665 during these hours, or visit the Union County website at www.ucnj.org/stable .
