Gourmet To-Go…. doesn’t that sound good?
If you’ve been to Westfield’s new bistro Amuse, you might have left with a royal treat in hand…complimentary salted caramels that absolutely melt in your mouth! It turns out those caramels are crafted at yet another new eatery in Westfield: Maggie Cooks.
Helmed by chef-owners Margaret Hodges and Jane Schoenfeld, Maggie Cooks opened its doors in December of 2013, after 10 years of doing a brisk business in private catering. It’s a cozy little shop where the scents of home cooking hit you the second you walk in, and the menu is handwritten on whimsical chalkboards.
Every Friday, Maggie Cooks updates their website (www.maggiecooks.net) with the following week’s menu. Some recent offerings include butternut squash lasagna, carrot-ginger soup, and southwest chicken wraps. According to Margaret: “We cook anything but sushi!” They’re noted for their spicy “jerk burgers,” killer turkey burgers, and sweet mini scones that have become a regular offering at Amuse’s Sunday brunch. There’s no seating in the shop, everything is to-go, so you get restaurant-quality food for less than what you’d pay at a sit-down restaurant.
Maggie Cooks is located at 116 Sussex Street, conveniently sandwiched between South and Central Avenues in Westfield, with free 2-hour street parking. They’re open Monday through Friday from 10 am to 6 pm and Saturdays from 10-1pm, serving lunch and dinner to-go. You can walk in and order or call ahead (908-233-0074). And of course they still offer private catering for all events.
