2014 CRANDUCKY DERBY
“Cranducky.” It sounds like a rather delicious dish of duck and cranberry sauce, doesn’t it? Except that THESE ducks are rubber, and therefore not very tasty. They are, however, a whole lot of fun!
Hanson Park Conservancy’s popular Rubber Ducky Derby is scheduled once again for Sunday, October 19, 2013, and tickets are now on sale. Hundreds of individually-numbered rubber ducks will be released in the Rahway River at Sperry Park on race day and travel over the falls racing to the finish line at the North Union Ave Bridge. A whole bunch of wonderful prizes will be awarded, and the top prize for the fastest lucky duck is a $250.00 gift card.
Tickets can be purchased at three different Cranford locations: Joanie’s Café and Periwinkles, both on North Union Avenue in downtown Cranford, or the Canoe Club on Springfield Ave. Purchase a single duck for only $5.00 or a flock of 5 ducks for $20.00 to increase your family’s chances of waddling home as ducky winners. But be an early bird to get our duck, because there is only a limited number, and they DO sell out.
All proceeds benefit Hanson Park maintenance and educational programs, at 38 Springfield Ave, an icon of the Cranford community. The Cranford Canoe Club canoe races, rescheduled from this year’s rainy July 4th festivities, will be held earlier that morning (stay tuned for time announcements), so, if you choose to make a day of it, you can watch both boats and ducks race across the waters that day.
It’s a lot of fun, and it’s for a great cause. Seriously, if hundreds of smiling rubber ducks racing over the falls doesn’t bring a smile to your face, then you’re a pretty hard sell for a smile!
