Avenue East
Located in the heart of downtown Cranford at 16 North Union Avenue, Avenue East is a trendy, modern, very “urban-looking” Asian Fusion restaurant, similar in feel to what you’d expect to find in Manhattan. Its decor is what often draws people in initially, but its food is what keeps them coming. And when you ask the staff, they’ll tell you that the locals DO keep on coming, and how delighted they to see familiar faces come in, as well as first-time customers, and that word of mouth has been their best advertising. In the few years since it has opened, this restaurant has become a Cranford favorite, drawing out-of-towners in as well. It’s a great place to meet clients for lunch, have a ladies’ night out, enjoy a date, or to eat with the family. The joint is always jumping, a very desirable sign for a restaurant, and there is a lovely waiting area in front with comfortable seating. The suspended lighting really gives the place an interesting atmosphere. Overall, it has the effect of a place that looks very expensive, until you look at the menu and discover that this is not the case at all.
The food is delicious, unique, and reasonably priced. They do not use MSG, and most of their dishes are heart healthy. With the help of registered dietician Lisa Adler, Avenue East has strived to make food that is not only great tasting, but healthy, as well. If you’re a sushi lover, there is a well-stocked sushi bar to keep you happy. Or order off of the fusion menu. (Don’t pass up the summer rolls as an appetizer, and try the Singapore noodles, two of the most popular items on the menu!) Check out the full menu at http://www.ave-east.com . The restaurant is BYOB, with Breen’s liquor store very conveniently located right across the street. It’s the perfect place to go when you’re looking for something different!
