Cranford NJ’s The Rocking Horse

 

            Yep.  Time’s almost up! It is the final weekend before Christmas.  What’s that?  You haven’t done your shopping yet?  And you have little ones to buy for?  Well, before you forego your “Aunt or Uncle of the Year” award, or feign illness to avoid showing up at a friend’s house with nothing for their kids, you should know that there is still hope for you.  And it does NOT involve a trip to the mall of horrors . . . . . which basically describes ANY mall this weekend.

            Right here in the heart of the Cranford shopping area, at 29 Alden Street, you can pop into The Rocking Horse.  And, I assure you, you’ll be glad you did!  Since its doors opened in 2008, the business has been a Cranford favorite.  Jim Sweeney, the owner, chose the location because of the family-friendly nature of the town itself.  Unlike the mega-sized toy chain stores, this store is a throw-back to what neighborhood toy stores USED to be.  Rather than being overwhelmed when you walk in, you’ll immediately feel like smiling.  It is just the right size, colorful, cozy, and an absolute pleasure to shop in.  No PA systems blaring, no crowds pushing shopping carts . . . . just a manageable room full of pure joy!  

            And the stock is wonderful!  Almost every toy and game in the store is educational or developmentally friendly . . . something the big toy chain stores can definitely NOT boast!  It carries unique games, toys, arts and crafts kits, and books, for all ages from infants to teens.  They carry Lego, Playmobile, Radio Flyer, Melissa and Doug . . . . and so, so much more!!!  Many of the items are things you could never find in a “McToy” store .  It’s the perfect place to find the perfect gift for any child . . . especially if you aren’t sure of what they already have or are receiving from others.  And if you’re thinking that the “unique”  gift carries a bigger price-tag, you’re wrong.  Their prices are very reasonable.  You can definitely reinstate yourself as “Aunt/Uncle/Friend of the Year”   . . . . . the kids will love the unique gifts, and the parents will be impressed with your educational purchase.  Hooray for you!
