If you think hockey is for the tough hearted, and that hockey players focus primarily on inflicting pain, think again. Because the Cranford HS and Westfield HS teams are showing their soft sides.
The rival teams are uniting in support for a very special young man, using their Union County game at 8:30 PM on Wednesday, February 6th, at Warinanco Park Rink (Thompson Rd, Roselle NJ) to do so. Will DeGregorio is a 3 year old boy suffering from a rare form of adrenal cancer, and is a person very close to both the Westfield and Cranford communities. The local rivalry between the Cranford Cougars and Westfield Blue Devils will be put aside as all players, coaches, administrators, and fans join together to help this special, energetic, and courageous little boy. There’s something to be said for putting things in perspective and sorting out priorities.
Tickets to the game are $10 for adults and $5 for students, with 100% of the proceeds going to help Will’s fight against cancer. There will also be raffle tickets sold for $10 apiece. Prizes will include Rangers tickets, NY Knicks tickets, NY Mets tickets and a complimentary overnight at the New York Marriott Marquis. Tickets may be purchased in advance in Cranford at the RUSTIC MILL DINER and at AUGUSTA MAE in Cranford, and in Westfield at VICKI’S DINER.
Come out for the game, buy raffle tickets, or even just make a donation, to assist a wonderful little boy from our community in need. Donations can also be made to “Friends of CHS Hockey C/O Will” @ 111 James Street, Cranford, NJ 07016.
