Bohemian Raspberry
I’m a sucker for a catchy title. And this one amuses me. But the business itself is as big of a draw as the clever name.
Bohemian Raspberry, located at 219 South Avenue East in Westfield, is right at the west end of the Shop Rite Liquors/Fujiyama Mama strip mall on South Ave, (in between The Bagel Chateau and the car wash), so there is tons of parking. They present themselves as “Westfield’s first frozen yogurt and coffee shop,” where customers can enjoy a sweet treat while staying health conscious. All of their frozen yogurt is low calorie, full of healthy probiotics, and kosher certified. Oh, and yummy . . . . don’t forget yummy!!!! They also serve ice cream, sorbet, and pastries from the infamous Balthazar Bakery. There is seemingly no end to their variety of toppings, which range from fresh fruit and nuts to organic gummy bears. Who even knew there WERE organic gummy bears?! Their gourmet coffee beverages are made with their own blend of roasted Arabica beans, and they serve hot and cold espresso drinks. .The place boasts a tastefully decorated lounge area with leather sofas, wood tables, and soft lighting, making it a relaxing environment to decompress for a bit while enjoying your treats.
Barry Goldenberg, owner of the store, says he enjoys being able to foster a sense of community at Bohemian Raspberry. After Hurricane Sandy, when he found that his business was one of the few that still had power, the store became an oasis, of sorts, for nearby residents, who were welcomed in to power up phones and laptops, and to enjoy some normalcy in a tumultuous time. Many friends and repeat customers were made during that period, and the rave reviews of the business’ products and customer service keep rolling in.
You can check them out at http://bohemian-raspberry.com/ , or on their Facebook page. Or, better yet, stop in for a hot-and-cold treat of coffee and yogurt. Hum a little Queen while you do so. Oh, come on . . . you KNOW you did so as soon as you read the title!
