We all have those unrealistic visions of what summer time will be for our kids. Playing outside all day every day with friends, swimming in the pool, happily reading books in the backyard hammock, catching lightning bugs. But when reality comes and slaps us . . . . hard . . . . in the face, beyond the surprise sting can be heard, “I’m bored!”
Thus – the summer camp concept was born, every bit as much to maintain parents’ sanity as to entertain and instruct the children. There are all kinds – sleep-away camp, day-camp, basketball, soccer, or baseball camp, dance or gymnastics camp, even math and science camp. But here’s one you’ve probably never heard or thought of before, and it sounds amazingly cool!
Little Scoops Ice Cream Parlour and Kids’ Party Place, at 9 North Union Avenue in the center of the Cranford shopping district, is offering something that sounds like a blast! From July 15th to July 19th, (M-W, 9:30-12:00, Th, 9:30- 11:30, f 9:30 – 1:00), children entering grades 3 through 6 can attend “Lego Stop Motion Camp.” Kids will learn Frame 5 software, as well as the steps necessary to create a storyboard, and design and create a Lego set for their movie. They will learn how to add sounds and special effects to enhance their video, and how to edit their work into a finished Lego stop motion animation video. How cool is that?! Seriously, most ADULTS would have a blast with this! Friday will include the grand finale, when videos will be shared, prizes will be awarded, and everyone will enjoy a pizza and ice cream party . . . . . a Little Scoops specialty! The price for everything – including instruction, materials needed, and Friday’s party, is $300 per child.
You can register your child at https://partywirks.com/store/little_scoops/inquiry/3384, or call Little Scoops directly at (908) 497-7090.
You can save your sanity, entertain the kids, and possibly even set their sights on a career in an ever-growing technological field. And pretty much ANYTHING that includes Legos AND ice cream has got to be cool.
