We live in a time of disposability. Cars that last 10 years are an anomaly. Marriages that last that long are a miracle. So can you imagine being in business . . . . with your family . . . . for more than CENTURY?!
Schieferstein Farm Market and Garden Center is the last operating farm in Clark and the surrounding area. Brothers Fred and Andrew Schieferstein have lived in Clark their entire lives, since way back when Clark was once a big farming community. It was actually their great great grandfather who founded the farm in 1903, and this family-owned and operated farm still operates as a Clark staple today. 110 years and still going strong! And the pictures adorning the walls of the market are a window into the past of the century-old farm.
This is a great place for local jersey fresh produce, picked fresh weekly. Lots of organic produce and products are also available, as are fantastic fresh baked pies and apple cider donuts (YUM!). There’s even gluten free products, vegan baked goods, local cheeses, and fresh bread every weekend. They also carry local, raw, unprocessed, filtered, delicious, healthy honey in various flavors. McCutcheons , another local family owned and operated business, provides jellies, jams, sugar free preserves, and relishes.
Looking to garden? There is a full garden center with flowers, trees, shrubs, vegetable plants, herbs, topsoils, bagged products, and organic soils, and a gift shop with pottery, beach bags, garden bags, vintage items and more. Guess you build up quite an inventory over a hundred years or so!
Come see this little piece of local history, at 393 Madison Hill Road in Clark. Great great grandpa Schieferstein would drop his pitchfork if he could see the farm’s official website at http://www.schiefersteinfarm.com/. Check out the place, and walk away with something great!
