If you’re considering a Catholic education for your children, you’ll surely be impressed by all that St. Michael’s School has to offer, right in lovely Cranford! St. Michael’s will host a series of open house events as part of Catholic Schools Week later this month. Parents and prospective students (preschool through grade eight) are invited to visit during three sessions: Thursday, Jan. 28, at 7 pm; Sunday, Jan. 31, from 10 am to 1 pm; and Wednesday, Feb. 3, from 1 pm to 2 pm.
Parents and students will have the opportunity to tour the school and enjoy conversation with Principal Sandy Miragliotta as well as with parents and current students, who will be assisting with each tour. What a great way to get the inside scoop on a school, talking to actual students who attend there along with their parents! Teachers will also be available in their classrooms to answer questions. Registrations for the 2016-2017 school year, will be accepted at these sessions.
Located at 100 Alden St. in Cranford, St. Michael’s was established in 1929. According to Principal Miragliotta, St. Michael’s is a thriving, faith-based school where children become independent thinkers and grow into responsible young adults grounded in Catholic values. Regarding the Open House, the principal says: “It enables us to showcase the strengths of our school that differentiate us from other educational institutions. We have the unique opportunity to incorporate our faith into everyday learning experiences. Children experience their faith not only in religion class, but also throughout their day, including meal times. The teachers work to reinforce common values and encourage a sense of social responsibility. Many families believe that St. Michael’s School is like a family away from home.”
St. Michael’s School is a member of the National Catholic Education Association (NCEA) and accredited by the Middle States Association Commission on Elementary Schools. Primary, elementary, and middle school curriculums are based on guidelines set forth by the Archdiocese of Newark to prepare students for high school and beyond. Controlled class sizes and average 16:1 student-teacher ratio foster individualized attention and offer students the ability to engage in classroom inquiry, discovery, and learning. Over the past five years, St. Michael’s students have on average surpassed nationwide Terra Nova standardized test scores.
The early childhood education program offers pre-kindergarten 3 & 4 (full and half day) and full-day academically based kindergarten. On-site before and after care is also available.
St. Michael’s extracurricular activities include a wide range of instructional and competitive sports programs, drama, Scholastic Olympics, the Teen Arts Festival, Forensics competitions, as well as Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts.
