Spring is in the air! And soon it will be time to get the yards and grounds ready! There are flowers to be planted, lawns to be fertilized . . . . And, of course, all of that hard work can build up an appetite. You can certainly PLANT some fruits and veggies, but they won’t be ready for quite a while. What’s a person to do?
If you’ve driven by Nomahegan Park along Springfield Avenue, you’re sure to have seen it. The brand new building going up on Dreyer Farms property. They’ve been working quickly to finish up the brand new, updated, larger building so that it can be ready by this Spring, which marks their 110th year in business. (Holy schmoley!!!) Dreyer Farms has been a part of Cranford’s history since 1904, and still, today, grows things on their own property AND supports local area farmers. They are totally remaking their very popular market, adding much-needed additional parking, and a considerably larger retail space. So far, it looks awesome!
In addition to the regular farm market locals have come to love, this year they are adding dairy. They have partnered with Green Market Dairy, a NJ based, old fashioned milkman, to offer grass-fed, glass-bottle milk, just like Grandma used to have delivered. Isn’t that moooovelous? (Sorry!) Of course, they still offer their exceedingly popular CSA (Cranford Supports Agriculture) memberships, where patrons can enjoy a basket of fresh, locally grown fruits and veggies on a weekly basis. And you can choose the basket size that is right for you and your family. Check it out at DreyersFarm.com.
While construction is finishing, sign-ups for the CSA baskets are currently going on online. Keep an eye out for the grand re-opening of an old Cranford staple. Then stock up on some healthy foods, and some healthy plants!
