The Westfield Memorial Library recently updated the system used for circulation, ordering and the maintenance of the on-line catalog. The most noticeable difference will be a new and improved on-line catalogthat’s easier to search. It will now be possible to search a title by material type so you’ll be able to seek out a title and see if a specific book is in the library’s inventory. The Library is also taking steps to “go green” by eliminating paper, over-due and hold notifications via postal mail. Patrons will also begin to get e-mails with reminders that their borrowed books are about to become overdue.
Other new developments at the Westfield, NJ Library include their extensive “Digital Download Center” where patrons can download ebooks, audiobooks, music and movies to computers and mobile devices such as iPads, Kindle and other “e” readers. Once downloaded, the selection stays on the device for anywhere from three to ten days. Once the time is up, the selection is automatically deleted from the device. There are no worries about late fees or returning books!
The Westfield, NJ Library offers different options for the electronic services and beginning October 3, 2011, eReaders will be available at the library:
www.ListenNJ is a collection of fiction and non fiction audiobooks and ebooks for Blackberries, iPods, iPhones, iPads, Sony Readers. Androids, and Nooks. And the recent announcement that Kindle owners are now able to download ebooks at no cost through the online service ListenNJ adds to the convenience!
EBSCO’s eBooks Offers thousands of titles from a variety of publishers and all titles can be read online directly and most can be downloaded to a device.
http://www.overdrive.com/software/omc/ offers films such as documentaries, foreign films, travel, and independent films, as well as an extensive collection of varied musical genres that can be downloaded for your enjoyment.
Another amazing tool that Westfield Library members can utilize is called “Library Elf”
http://www.libraryelf.com/ Elf is an Internet-based tool that patrons can utilize to keep track of their library accounts. Users can keep track of one or more library accounts in one place and receive reminders regarding items that are due, overdue, or ready for pick up. The reminders are sent when the user wants it — before items are due (up to seven days advance notice, weekly notice or everyday reminders). This system is extremely useful for busy families, students, and anyone who prefers to avoid late fees!
