They’re heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee-re!  Posted throughout the streets and sidewalks of downtown Cranford.  Scary, funny, cute . . . . and all very creative.  The scarecrows are back, heralding in the Autumn weeks leading to Halloween!

This year, they arrived on Thursday, October 17th, and will hang around (see what I did there?) looking for votes until October 27th.  The township’s business and development office is once again sponsoring the Cranford Scarecrow Stroll and scarecrow making contest.  The beloved event is open to everyone, and voting for your favorite is open (as was scarecrow construction), to all Cranford residents, businesses, groups, clubs, and organizations.  While seeing them hanging and bringing smiles to passersby is a prize in itself, prizes are awarded in both the 12 and under group, and the 13 and older group.  Ballots for voting were sent to Cranford residences, but they are also available in most downtown stores.  And they even have their own Facebook page this year!  https://www.facebook.com/ScarecrowStroll

It just wouldn’t be Autumn in Cranford without them!  And there are some really great ones this year . . . along with witches, fairies, and monsters, there’s Humpty Dumpty, Bob the Builder (who can be seen constructing his OWN scarecrow, and even a scarecrow with a camera phone taking a “selfie.”  Unfortunately, there’s no way to keep the kids from breaking into song when they pass the “What Does the Fox say?” scarecrow. (Which doesn’t seem nearly as creepy as the guys who actually SING that song in the video.)

It’s the perfect, free of charge, walk-around activity to do with loved ones of all ages, and a great way to enjoy the beautiful Autumn weather.  While you’re out, be sure to notice and enjoy the beautiful window displays by so many of the surrounding Cranford businesses who also got into “Fall mode.”

Stop into Breadsmith to pick up a delicious bread, muffin, or brioche in a multitude of fantastic flavor choices, pop into Rockn’ Joe’s for a “Smashin’ Pumpkin” coffee drink, and make a morning or an afternoon of it.  Cast your vote!
