From Overflow to Opportunity
If you’ve ever helped someone downsize or prep for a move, you know the feeling: What are we going to do with all this extra furniture?
That very question led longtime move managers Judy Brucia and Meg Freer to start Moving Forward Warehouse (MFW)—a nonprofit furniture and home goods thrift store serving the greater community.

“MFW was born from our for-profit business, JM Move Managers, the primary resource for the furniture and housewares at MFW,” they explained. “A large part of our client base includes people downsizing from larger homes to smaller apartments or assisted living homes. The overflow of unwanted furniture from these moves inspired us to create MFW.”
Rather than let those pieces end up in a landfill, Judy and Meg saw a chance to create impact. “Re-selling these donations allows us to not only help our community,” they said, “but also keep these items out of our landfills.”
Mission-Driven: Supporting Foster Youth & More
At the heart of Moving Forward Warehouse is a mission that began with supporting youth transitioning out of foster care—but quickly grew to reach even more.
“Our mission started with the foster care system,” they said, “and has grown to helping so many more already. Organizations like Family Promise, Nourish NJ, and Roots & Wings. We have furnished many apartments already, and with the proceeds we purchase new mattresses and bedding for each person.”
Not Just a Warehouse—A Community Resource

MFW is open to the public and staffed by dedicated volunteers who bring life and energy to the shop.
“We love getting all these amazing donations and always have fun, unique pieces—some real treasures as well!”
Their shoppers are just as varied as their donations. “We have lots of different customers—DIY people who can get pieces at super low prices, refinish them and then resell; people looking for pieces for new homes, apartments, or dorms; collectors—we often get antiques and unusual pieces that are hidden treasures.”

Moving Forward Warehouse Mountainside NJ Built From Community, For Community
Beyond the furniture, what makes MFW truly special is its roots in the local community.
“We both have been very involved in our community since our kids were young—within the school system, sports, etc. We hope to continue to have an impact.”
And they welcome your help:
“We look forward to people in the community helping out! We are always looking for volunteers, people donating furniture, or just coming to shop!”
