Let’s face it, this is the only time of year parents actually encourage their kids to play with knives and to play with their food.  To take a simple, innocent, round vegetable, and turn it into something to make others fearful, laugh, or remark at their creativity.  It’s Halloween, and it’s pumpkin carving time!!!  On Saturday, October 27^th, Cranford residents have an opportunity to show off their carving prowess, and to enjoy the creativity of their neighbors. 

The pumpkin carving contest and pumpkin walk are sponsored by Jersey Central Art Studios and The Hanson Park Conservatory.  Carved pumpkins can be dropped off at Hanson Park between 10:00 and 2:00, and the judging itself will take place at 2:00.  The age categories are broken down from ages 4 – 8, 9 – 12, 13 – 17, and adult, and for each age group there will be prizes awarded in the categories of funniest, scariest, and most original.  The pumpkins will then remain on display in the park from 6:00 – 9:00, where everyone is invited to walk through and enjoy all of the creativity . . . . the best part of the contest!    Visit  www.CAS.org or www.HANSONPARKCONSERVATORY.com for more information and entry forms.

Also at Hanson Park, at 6:00, thanks to The Friends of the Cranford Public Library, visitors can enjoy a free outdoor showing of the 1935 classic with Boris Karloff, “The Bride of Frankenstein.”  It’s BYOC (Bring Your own Chairs . . . . or blankets), pack some snacks and a thermos of hot chocolate, bring the whole family, friends, and neighbors, and get set to be put into the Halloween mood.  Enjoy a classic horror film, surrounded by pumpkins, among neighborhood friends, in the crisp Autumn air.  Build some great memories, and get your Halloween on!!!
