Scarecrow Stroll
It just isn’t Fall in Cranford until they arrive. Standing in welcome like amusing Autumnal soldiers, welcoming all to the streets and sidewalks of downtown Cranford.
This year, they arrive on Wednesday, October 17th, and will hang around (quite literally) until Halloween. The township’s business and development office is once again sponsoring the Cranford Scarecrow Stroll and scarecrow making contest. More than 125 scarecrows are expected to be created and hung in the downtown area. The beloved event is open to all Cranford residents, businesses, groups, clubs, and organizations. While seeing them hanging and bringing smiles to passersby is a prize in itself, prizes are awarded in both the 12 and under group, and the 13 and older group. Ballots for voting will be, as always, available in downtown stores, but this year they will also be mailed to homes. Entry forms, as well as scarecrow making tips and event details, are available online at www.cranford.com/downtown , as well as at the Cranford Community Center, the library, and the municipal building. Entries are due by September 28th. This is a great activity for scout dens, teams, and even families. And it’s such fun to walk or drive around town to see the creativity!
They may not actually scare away any crows, but they certainly bring smiles to everyone who passes by! Get in the Autumn spirit, pick up a pumpkin latte at Rockn’ Joe’s, take a little stroll around town, and visit the scarecrows!
