Alfred Hitchcock’s “The Birds” at BOTH Cranford and Westfield NJ Movie Theaters 9/19/12

The Birds” At Cranford Digiplex and Westfield Digiplex Theaters

“The Birds are Coming.” Almost 50 years ago, in 1963, Alfred Hitchcock launched a publicity campaign for his new project, “The Birds,” with just those four words. Years later, those of us who watched it rerun on TV every now and again as children would spend days afterwards crossing the street to avoid walking near a telephone line or tree where birds were visibly sitting, and freak out when visiting a friend who had a parakeet as a pet.  Now, Turner Classic Movies and Universal Pictures bring this classic American iconic movie, “The Birds,” back to the big screen for only one night in celebration of Universal’s 100th Anniversary, on September 19th. The movie will include an introduction by TCM Host Robert Osborne, as well as an exclusive interview he conducted with the film’s star Tippi Hedren specifically for this special presentation. Hedren will not only reveal how “Hitch” hand-picked her to play the part of Melanie Daniels but also how the movie that launched her career also ended it.

Fun fact – do you know what horror movie, musically speaking, is considered the exact opposite of “The Birds?”  The answer would be “Jaws.”  For, while Jaws is renowned for its soundtrack, and make even more famous by the ominous music accompanying each attack scene, “The Birds” is the only horror movie made with absolutely NO music accompaniment at all.  Many would argue that the quiet sounds of birds on the wing made it all the more creepy.

“The Birds” on the big screen . . . . how fun is that?!  Visit http://digiplexdest.com/Movies.aspx?movie=139651 for tickets, or visit The Digiplex Cranford Theater or Digiplex Westfield Theater
