A History of Jazz

The Friends of the Cranford Public Library invite everyone to attend a “History of Jazz” on August 8, at 7:30 PM, at the Cranford Community Center.  This program will be presented by trumpeter and vocalist Gordon James, who has performed with the likes of Thad Jones, The Mel Lewis Big Band,Tthe Harry James Tribute Band, vocalist Bobby Caldwell, saxophonists Eric Kloss and Paul Winter, cellist David Darling, the Soul Survivors, Johnny “Guitar” Watson, Angela Bofill, and Chuck Loeb. Mr. James, along with piano accompaniment, will use music and discussion to trace the history of the genre, highlighting “the jazz giants, ” and feature musical selections spanning the entire history of jazz. Admission to the program is free and all are welcome.  It promises to be a fun night out for jazz lovers of all ages, and a great way to introduce kids and newbies to the pleasures of jazz.  It’s a great way to “jazz up” your summer!
